The breakout sessions are designed for a deep 40 minute conversation as opposed to a presentation which makes this a truly empowering experience. Each leader will lead a table and you will get an opportunity to talk in a conversation style format (1 leader to 8 individuals) to really learn from their journey, ask them questions and be inspired.

Here are the profiles of the break-out session leaders:
Dr. Lindy Ledohowski (B.A., B.Ed., M.A., Ph.D.) is a former English teacher and professor focusing her scholarly research on post-multicultural Canada and questions of ethnic identity and diversity in contemporary Canadian literature. As a cultural studies expert focusing on issues of ethno-national identities in today’s Canada, her academic work focuses on postcolonial, ethnic, racial, diasporic, and transnational concerns and has published peer-reviewed scholarship for over 10 years. On the strength of this work, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in 2011 and re-appointed for a second term in 2015. In 2014 she began focusing work on her educational start up – EssayJack Inc. – and launched it in beta in 2015. By 2016 it was named one of the world’s best English Language Teaching digital innovations by Cambridge English and the British Council, and it is sold across Canada in an exclusive partnership with Canadian-company Nelson. This award-winning educator is now an award-winning entrepreneur passionate about leadership & equity as well as critical thinking & writing. She believes that education can empower the world.
Laurel Larcombe is a director of consulting and professional services, most recently at CGI and previously at TELUS, Microsoft and IBM Global Services. She has led teams of five to fifty consultants, architects and PMs, focusing on helping them to grow personally and professionally.
Laurel believes very strongly that employee satisfaction is a prerequisite to customer satisfaction and that’s what really matters at the end of the day – delivering value to clients. She is also passionate about nature and spends her weekends hiking and canoeing in our wonderfully green city and out in the wilder parts of Ontario.
Khalil Alfar leads Microsoft Canada’s Cloud and Enterprise (C+E) Business. He is accountable for the business performance and strategy of the portfolio of Azure Cloud Services, Enterprise Products and Solutions critical to Canadian businesses. Khalil has been with Microsoft for 13+ years and held various consulting, enterprise support management and marketing roles during this tenure. Prior to Microsoft, Khalil held various technology consulting and management roles in Banking, Insurance and Healthcare organizations. Khalil is graduate of the Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto. He is passionate about building high performance teams, future leaders and dedicated to lifelong learning.
Jazzmine Lawton is a young professional with a passion for conscious living and social good. Her background in professional writing, event management and project management has led her to take on initiatives around the world, specifically in Ghana and India, working on sustainable development projects with a focus on youth leadership. Jazzmine is currently the Executive Director of Youth Troopers for Global Awareness, a youth-led non-profit mobilizing and empowering young people for social justice using various arts, workshops, events and campaigns as their platform of advocacy. YTGA is mostly known as Studio.89, a community hub and fair trade café offering a free, safe space for events, workshops and resources. The café was implemented by the organization in 2014 in Mississauga and acts as a social enterprise. She is also the lead Hub Coordinator for the Toronto Travel +SocialGood Hub, a project under Travel +SocialGood, an non-profit in partnership with the UN Foundation.
Doug Zarkovich started his career with the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) Branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry as a Firefighter in the Chapleau District in 1988. He worked his way through the ranks gaining experience in fire management, fire response and fire behaviour and is commitment to seeking out and attracting top talent to Ontario’s wildfire organization.
His current position is Fire Operations Supervisor. His training has allowed him to function in a number of fire line leadership roles. He has put his specialized skills into practice during some of the more historic and notable fires in Ontario and across Canada. His journey in continual learning and leadership in firefighting has spanned from British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the United States. Doug is a leader and a manager and claims that to be successful at his work, he needs to possess competencies and attributes of both.
Doug welcomes you to join him at the leadership table to hear how he de-mystified the leadership concept. His best advice for an inspiring leader is very simple: If you want trust, give trust; if you want respect, give respect; if you want civility then be civil to others.
Leadership is done by example; people watch our feet far more than our lips.
Kevin Whyte works in the government relations field and is currently employed as the Director of Government Relations with Sutherland Corporation. Kevin previously worked at Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga as the Manager of Government Relations and Special Projects. In his current role, Kevin is responsible for building and maintaining positive, constructive relationships with elected officials and government staff to ensure that the interests of Sutherland’s clients are attended to and new opportunities are made available. Kevin emphasizes community involvement, learning from failure rather than dwelling on it, and employing a positive attitude when taking on difficult tasks. Finally, Kevin’s great interest in travel has taken him to 28 countries to date, including 2 overseas student exchange programs.”
Kendra Kincade: Speaker, philanthropist, air traffic controller, there is no doubt that Global Woman of Vision award winner, Kendra Kincade is a true inspiration, a beautiful reminder to us all that it is possible to intentionally change your life and live your dreams.
Overcoming a decidedly challenging early life which left her dejected and disillusioned, a single mother raising 4 children, Kendra discovered quite by accident that the pathway to her own salvation lay in helping others find theirs.
She enthusiastically embarked upon her quest to make a difference, fundraising for worthwhile organizations, even climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for a local hospital. Soon, she was heading up her own nonprofit organization, Changing Stories, and choosing her own projects such as the construction of a sports playground in El Salvador and a classroom in Nicarauga.
Her longtime career as an Air Traffic Controller opened up more horizons for the aspiring young woman, literally as well as figuratively, when Kendra, recognizing the negligible female presence in the industry, set out to remedy the situation. Now the Founder and Board Chairman of Elevate Aviation, a venture dedicated to uniting and empowering women in aviation, she is passionate about providing opportunities for women of all ages to attain knowledge and training in all its related professions.
Kendra Kincade is proof positive that when you direct your energy towards your goals, you can make miracles happen. “You just have to imagine it and go after it.” as she would assure you. “You CAN ‘elevate’ your life.”
Heiko Hellinger is a Global Executive who is flying in from Germany to be at the Expo. Heiko has had many global roles, including several executive management positions in China and Germany. He was the Partner & Chief Technology Officer at Wrap point Shanghai. He has also served as the head of R&D at Hella Xiamen Electronics Device Co.,LTD and as the domain group leader in mechanical design for components and electronics at S.C. Hella Romania S.R.L. Heiko bring a wealth of experience and proven knowledge that will help young adults who ambitions for a global career. Dan Bloch leads a North American sales team at Oracle Corporation focused on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM). He serves as the executive sponsor for many customer accounts and projects, while focused on building and maintaining strategic alliances with large consultancies such as Deloitte, PWC, Accenture, KPMG and IBM. Dan is also responsible for building industry strategies and alliances with independent software vendors (ISV), that drive forward the adoption of Oracle’s application strategy.
Dan is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience in leadership in sales, consulting and services across many industries with a particular focus on financial services. He brings a wealth of expertise with particular strengths in areas such as sales strategy, partner and alliance strategy, marketing, account executive sponsorship and management, industry models and go-to-market strategy, contact negotiation, building sales organizations, working in complex matrix organizations, compensation planning, talent management, talent acquisition and hiring. Greg Madeley is an influential visionary with over 23 years of global experience as a founding leader of a not-for-profit organization, Hands Across the Nations that drives positive impact to transform social and economic conditions in the developing world by building infrastructure for accessible healthcare, education and clean water in remote communities. He also leverages his 36 years of experience in medical research.
Greg teaches at Seneca College, within the School of Hospitality and Tourism, from an entrepreneurial and innovative perspective in areas of geography, “voluntourism” and not-for-profit leadership.
Imran Mian is a 19-year veteran of the technology industry that includes software, telecom, system integration, professional and advisory services in North American markets, Imran has experienced every facet of the business. He uses his extensive experience to solve business problems, optimize organizations and drive growth.
Prior to joining mobileLIVE, Imran worked at Bell Canada, Samsung, Info-Tech Research Group, Onx, Ingram Micro and Diversinet in senior sales roles.
Imran holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from York University and volunteers for the United Way.
Shafiq Amarsi is the Head of Americas Sales Strategy & Operations at Amazon Web Services supporting 11 business across the US, Canada and LATAM and leads teams focused on Strategy & Planning, Business Insights, Sales Operations, Customer Enablement and Sales Productivity & Readiness.
Prior to joining Amazon, Shafiq spent 15 years at Microsoft in a variety of roles around the world. Most recently, Shafiq was leading WW Sales Strategy. He led Sales and Sales Excellence for Microsoft Services in EMEA based out of London and Istanbul, and he spent several years at Microsoft Canada in a number of roles including Sales Management and Strategy Consulting.
Prior to Microsoft, Shafiq was an entrepreneur creating a start-up focused on voice and fax processing technologies which he grew to the 23rd fastest growing technology company in Canada.
Shafiq is a graduate from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Systems Design Engineering with options in Management Science & Human Factors Engineering.
Jeff Vogan graduated with a degree in economics and management science (University of Waterloo, 1987) and started his career in IT. He saw the start of the PC generation, networks and the Internet. He worked at notable companies including IBM, Microsoft and Nortel and was responsible for some of the largest web services projects in Canada. While working at his “day job,” his passion was photography so he decided to retire from the IT industry and start his own business. Leveraging his experience in the IT industry, Vogan now leads a team that provide commercial, sports and event photography services.
Nofel Izz is an inventor and entrepreneur who is focused on developing solutions to global issues. His past experiences creating recognition programs, working with branding and founding an employment company have led him to a new career as an inventor.
Nofel started out by developing a successful employee recognition program for Canadian banks that is sill in use. Then, he founded a company which become the largest jobs portal in the Middle East, with 8.5 million users and more than 10,000 employers. Now he works at creating inventions to address deficits in various aspects of life.
Current projects he is working on include an oxygen mask for vehicles submerged in water, a patented space elevation concept using alloys and rail-stay cable systems, a tidal turbine design that generates over 3000 MW of power using only 200 acres of spatial footprint, a portable toilet apparatus that costs less than a cup of coffee to manufacture, a prophylactic wrapper with one hand application and a global-migration platform for millions seeking to immigrate to different regions of the world.
Scott Bowman joined Futurpreneur Canada in August 2010 as the Director, Government Relations. He actively promoted entrepreneurship as a key component to help solve youth unemployment to governments’ across Canada. As well, he was instrumental in securing partnerships from various levels of government for Futurpreneur.
In July 2012, Scott took on the role of Senior Director, Ontario at Futurpreneur. Since taking the lead of the Ontario team, he built a team which has been focused on extending Futurpreneur’s resources into communities across Ontario. Scott continues to focus his energies on presenting opportunities, building connections, and motivating young people to see themselves as potential successful business owners.
Wanda Fong is currently the Senior Client Partner for Financial Services at Facebook Canada. She oversees the overall customer experience for financial services organizations who partner with Facebook from media strategy through to campaign execution. Prior to joining Facebook, Wanda has held a diverse portfolio of cross functional roles including product engineering, product management and account management roles at global firms including Microsoft, Scotiabank and Mercer consulting. Wanda Fong holds a double degree in Computer Engineering and Interpersonal Communication from the University of Waterloo.
Kevin Hendershot is a Principal & Client Manager role within the Mercer Canada Toronto office responsible for making a difference in the wealth, health and careers of organizations and their employees within his client base.
Kevin has over 23 years of experience in professional services and enterprise sales including previous client management and sales leadership roles at Accenture, Allstream and Microsoft. Along with cross-industry work experience, Kevin has a Bachelor’s from Western University and a CHRM from Ryerson University.
Kevin maintains an active involvement within his community through fundraising and volunteer work within the Toronto School Boards and the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation at the annual Road Hockey To Conquer Cancer event.
Alice Li is the reigning Miss Toronto World 2017 and an Associate in assurance at PwC. Full of ambition, she graduated last year from the University of Toronto as the Valedictorian and went on to complete her graduate studies at the Rotman School of Management.
Beyond Alice’s full-time role at PwC, she teaches 4th year Advanced Financial Accounting at UofT, where she hopes to serve as a positive role model. Combining her interest in charity and entrepreneurship, Alice founded a nonprofit jewelry line with 100% proceeds to charity. She named the store “The Modern Princess” to promote the theme that beauty is more than what meets the eye.
In her free time, Alice lives a life in the modelling, fashion, and performing arts industry. She is a seasoned dancer with a background in classical ballet, and is currently working on her second music album. Alice is a young role model who demonstrates that it is possible to pursue your passions without giving up your professional career. Alice hopes to inspire others to dream far and never stop chasing those dreams. Stay focused, but stay passionate.
